It is science 101 that opposite charges attract. I’m sure you were sleeping though this class so here’s a little recap: an atom or a molecule which is negatively charged is called an anion while an atom or a molecule which is positively charged is called a cation (one has more electrons and the other more protons). As a result of being negatively and positively charged, the anions and cations form ionic bonds which exist due to the mutual attraction of oppositely charged ions. Tah-Dah!! 🙂
So my point today is that colors can carry charges too. Take black and white for instance:
Some instinctively associate black with sadness, sorrow, death, or evil. But to me black is the color of power, elegance, formality, and mystery. It’s all a matter of perspective, I suppose. In fashion terms, black is undeniably bold and fearless, formal and elegant, and instills strength, authority and prestige.
And then you have its polar opposite, the beautiful and soft white. I think we’re all pretty much aligned on this one; we all associate white with light, goodness, innocence, purity, and perfection. A total cation!
So what black conceals, white reveals and together they create the perfect ionic bond! Et voilà! Get your own ionic bond here!
